In the more than 9 years since we’ve been in business, we’ve had the opportunity to work on countless amazing projects and products related to wearables and smart devices, in many different innovative industries.
We’ve been helping both start-ups and large corporations build great products by leveraging our experience in UX/UI design and web/app software development – aspects of the product that completely define the experience the end user has with it. As pointed out by Elisabeth Bohlmann – our VP of Client Strategy – in one of her previous blog posts, user experience on mobile apps for smart devices is of paramount importance in the success of almost every device.
But what about the software inside the device?
There is a whole other equally important side of software development when it comes to smart devices: firmware and embedded software – that is, the software that runs on the device itself. Users nowadays are more demanding and impatient than ever, and won’t tolerate anything other than perfection when it comes to the device’s behavior and performance.
Both sides of the product – external web/apps and internal embedded software – are closely tied together, and require a great deal of interaction between all teams in order to build a cohesive and all-round product. Being able to outsource all these aspects of your product development to a single company is therefore highly desirable.
It has been a great year since we took the natural next step and expanded our offerings by establishing our own firmware and embedded software department. By doing this, we’ve been not only able to help our clients with specific needs in that area, but more importantly, we’ve been able to provide a more comprehensive, end-to-end service.
Our Firmware and Embedded Software Team
Our team is composed of seasoned electronics and computer engineers, with experience ranging from low-level bare-metal firmware or based on real-time operating systems (RTOS), all the way up to Embedded Linux.
We’ve worked with microcontrollers from all the most popular vendors such as Espressif, Nordic, Microchip, STM and TI, as well as a wide range of higher-end processor architectures such as ARM, RISC-V or Tensilica.
Communication is a crucial aspect of firmware development for IoT and wearable devices, and our team has extensive experience in both wireless and wired communication technologies, including WiFi, BLE, NFC, cellular, Ethernet, CAN, and UART.
